Architects in the Basque Country

From Biarritz, B+L Architects builds across the French Basque Country, from the coast to the inland villages: social housing, schools, private houses, community spaces and installations.

Our projects draw on local resources: timber from the regional supply chain, straw, earth, lime, stone, and materials reclaimed from deconstruction. We work with the constraints specific to the area — protected heritage zones, steep slopes, an oceanic climate — to create buildings that are frugal and durable.

Selected projects: Ascain primary school in a protected heritage area, with “Oasis” green schoolyards; the renovation of Errobi secondary school in Cambo on an occupied site; two houses in Arbonne in timber, poured earth, stone and straw; a single-storey house in Bidart; a community hub in the former buffet of Hendaye station; 45 homes in the centre of Ustaritz; a chandelier of reclaimed timber and neon for the Udada festival in Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
