A frugal neighbourhood designed around the path of water.
In Urrugne, 210 social homes settle into a sensitive natural site on a steep slope. The project follows the town’s charter point by point: hempcrete block buildings with timber top floors, wood-fibre insulation and geothermal energy. It gives shape to the Herrikopolis concept through Ondokoetxe, large groups of homes gathered around rain gardens that collect and reuse rainwater. The whole landscape design follows the path of water, made visible in the public spaces by densely planted swales. The architecture takes up the codes of the Basque Country and reinterprets them, without pastiche.
